Empowering 1st Gen Students To Graduate
Graphic Design | UI | Branding
The campaign is designed to empower first generation students to graduate on time. First generation college students face a harder time navigating academic life and achieving career goals compared to non-first generations. Due to the lack of experience from previous generations.
The campaign caters towards a younger section of the first generation, Gen Z, because much of what is seen in our competitors' work, like First Gen Forward, First Generation Foundation, Rise First, and so on, is catered to college seniors at the end of their college journeys. Not much is provided for freshmen students who are just starting out, which is why critical thinking and planning are essential to increasing student graduation rates.
The solution this campaign proposes is to develop tools that can help structure a first-gen’s life with easy-to-access resources, advisors, counselors, and more. While also spreading awareness for these types of students through subway ads and social media posts.

Conducting a survey allowed me to grasp a better understanding of my users’ behavior and the type of change students are looking for.
An app prototype for mobile is versatile and compatible with first-generation college students, allowing them to access the app from their phones. “Using mobile devices and Web 2.0 technologies to support first-gen student learning and academic engagement can improve their postsecondary success and completion.”
The app will allow the students to control, manage, and create academic and career goals/plans they wish to achieve. We can also create custom plans, ensuring they hit every step while supporting them emotionally and providing resources so that they can support themselves financially. We also plan to integrate this app within the campus systems so that all events, resources, and calendars are synced together.
Milton comes from the windmill. Used to generate electrical power. The concept of the wind and mill set forth the creation of the Generate App and Milton character. An app focused on generating first-generation student success!
In the beginning stages, I experimented with layout and color. I continued to integrate more pages into the app in order to meet student needs. I decided to add a leaderboard to increase productivity through friendly competition and a connections page, so students can network with peers who have similar values and lifestyles. As well as their advisors, mentors, and chat with Milton, of course!
