Challenge
To challenge visual appeals, consider characters and their actions critically, and interpret a song through its metaphors. Targeting teenagers and young adults who enjoy foreign music and things with greater meaning/significance.
Solution
By using illustration as a vital component to showcase the love story told by the song Racing into the Night, and demonstrate the meaning behind the character’s actions. Through the use of symbolism, color, and lyrical quotes, a listener can obtain a glimpse of the song.
Using the main characters as a visual representation of the song to capture audience attention and also convey the many layers within it.
The front cover depicts both the major protagonists from the chosen song's music video, as well as butterflies representing the characters after they've sped into the night, as the song title states. Following the same metaphorical theme, I chose a butterfly being pinned down as the back cover.
The two figures are portrayed with a dark background, resembling outer space, as splotches of color travel through. Depicting the significance of falling into the night sky as the two characters long for each other romantically, but their demise drags them down.
